Forget Botox – Peptides that Unlock the Fountain of Youth?

Have you ever thought about Botox or even indulged in Botox for that 3 months of youthful look. Well there is a better and more long lasting answer to regain your youth Peptides. Last week I attended a lecture by Dr Russell Vickers who is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and Pain Specialist, at the QLD branch Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists meeting; who talked about the benefits of stem cell therapy and peptides for the body and skincare cosmetics. This lecture blew me away not only because several weeks ago I had talked to you about growing lashes but it confirmed that these tiny small amino acids linked together in a certain sequences are fantastic in keeping us healthy and skin glowing plus hair growing.

Back in the 1950s that scientist became familiar with peptides but it was not until the late 1980s that the first copper peptide was incorporated into skincare and since 2000 there has been many more peptides discovered and produced for skin products. By applying certain peptides to your skin, you are in essence nourishing the skin with a protein diet that strengthens, nourishes and realigns the building blocks of the skin, allowing for a stronger, healthier skin.

Peptides are multifunctional and can improve the look and feel of skin in the following six ways:

  • Purify: Exfoliate, brighten and cleanse skin of impurities.
  • Relax: Minimize repetitive wrinkle-causing facial contractions.
  • Nourish: Feed and energize skin with essential nutrients and vitamins.
  • Stimulate: Promote healthy skin functions.
  • Hydrate: Perfectly balance and moisturize the skin.
  • Protect: Maintain a healthy collagen matrix while strengthening skin defenses.

So what peptides are needed for the skin to have that Youthful Glow?

Peptides that PURIFY – non-irritation exfoliation: Hexanoyl Dipeptide-3 Norleucine Acetate – that restores regular self exfoliation of the skin which slows down as we age. Normal 28 day skin cycle is returned and thus the skin is able to be hydrated and thus improves the skins smoothness and reduces the wrinkle depth.

Peptide to provide skin brightening/LIGHTENING. – Oligopeptide-68 – is a complex peptide that inhibits the transmitter that regulates the our production of pigmentation and is more effective than Arbutin and Vitamin C.

Peptides that RELAX: “Botox-Like” peptide Acetyl Octapeptide-3 and Dipeptide Diaminobutyrolyl Benzylamide Diacetate both – minimized, wrinkle contractions to lessen and soften the expression lines.

Peptide that NOURISH: Whey Protein – contains a network of natural signaling peptides -shown to activate cell metabolism and stimulate proteins such as Collagen and enhance wound healing.

Peptide that STIMULATE: One of the first widely used peptides, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide, this is a collagen fragment that was shown to increase collagen I, IV and glycosminoglycans. This peptide tricked the skin into thinking it is broken down too much collagen and triggers an increase in collagen Production

Above is just name a few of the peptides available for skin care products and the list is growing everyday as they continue to evolve and are understood. The best peptide cosmetic products on the market always have the peptides in a lipid (oil) formula to enable the peptide to be transported passed the epidermis barrier – (stratum corneum) and then onto the skin cells that need their help. So how much are these wonder ingredients? As they say you get what you pay for. A Kilo of peptide can cost in the $1000’s if you are paying $20 then do not expected miracles.

Zen Dejour’s first peptide product will be the eyelash/eyebrow growth serum released date 15 Jan 2015. This product backed by science studies requires 10% of peptide in the formula to ensure that you get results. And we all want Results.
